Venetian Carnival

Venetian carnival is the festival held in Venice, with origins in the Middle Ages. Masks are the central feature, made traditionally from leather or porcelain and molded into a range of shapes; modern versions use gesso and gold leaf, are hand painted, and are often adorned with feathers. Ornate dresses come in jewel tones, frequently velvet with gold details. Fans, gloves, veils, large hats, and headpieces complete the outfit.
