Antwerp Six
The Antwerp Six is an avant-garde Belgian fashion aesthetic named for the group of Royal Academy of Fine Arts graduates who arrived on the London fashion scene in 1986, among them Martin Margiela, Dries Van Noten, and Ann Demeulemeester. Deconstructed tailoring, intellectual rigor, and a refusal of trend cycles define the work. Jackets are left deliberately unfinished, showing their inner construction. Fabric is draped in unusual ways and hems run asymmetric. Palettes stay dark and earthy, materials get paired unexpectedly, and accessories are sculptural rather than decorative.
