The 1980s aesthetic is bold to the point of excess, built on power shoulders, neon colors, athletic wear, and maximalist styling. Punk, new wave, and corporate culture all fed it, and Reagan-era consumerism and individualism supplied the volume. Power-shoulder blazers and acid-wash denim set the tone. Leg warmers and neon spandex bring in the athletic side. Oversized sweatshirts, high-waisted jeans, and scrunchies round it out.
