50's Suburbia
50s suburbia is an idealized post-war American domestic aesthetic rooted in the consumer boom and suburban expansion of the 1950s, all housewife glamour, ranch houses, and pastel kitchens. Television like 'Leave It to Beaver' and the imagery of Levittown-style middle-class prosperity shaped it. Full circle skirts over crinolines and gingham or polka-dot shirtwaist dresses are the staples. Fitted cardigans with Peter Pan collars go over them. Kitten-heeled mules, pearl necklaces, and half-aprons complete the picture, and coordinated matching sets arrive in mint, coral, and butter yellow.
