Manueline
Manueline is an ornate Portuguese late-Gothic architectural and decorative style developed under King Manuel I between 1495 and 1521, at the height of the Age of Discovery, characterized by maritime motifs, rope twists, coral, armillary spheres, and exotic flora, carved into stone. In fashion it translates through richly embroidered textiles. Rope-twist borders edge the garments. Coral and anchor motifs cover them. Jewel tones of navy and gold fill the palette, over heavy silk brocades with densely patterned surfaces referencing the Portuguese maritime empire.
