Business casual is a professional workplace dress code balancing formality with comfort, built on blazers and dress pants and dispensing with the tie. It emerged in 1990s corporate culture as a relaxation of stricter business standards. Tailored chinos or slacks cover the bottoms. Blouses or button-down shirts go above them. Blazers or cardigans layer over, with loafers or low heels below and simple jewelry throughout.
