Darkwave city takes darkwave, the music genre that emerged in the late 1970s out of new wave and post punk with minor key tonality and introspective, sorrowful lyrics, and dresses it for the city. Goth and punk supply the clothing vocabulary. Outfits run all black. Leather and studs carry the punk half. Velvet and long skirts carry the goth half.
