2010's Bright Kawaii
2010s bright kawaii is an internet-born maximalist aesthetic that fused Japanese kawaii culture with Western rainbow and candy-rave excess, pushing color saturation and accessory layering to joyful extremes in the early 2010s. Tumblr and DeviantArt were where it circulated. Fairy kei is the nearest neighbor, though bright kawaii runs far more aggressively colorful. Rainbow or neon tutu skirts go over multicolor tights. Graphic character-print crop tops sit above them, with platform creepers or chunky pastel sneakers below. Oversized bows, brightly colored circle lenses, and pastel or rainbow-streaked wigs finish it, and plastic bangles and rings are stacked by the dozen.
